Carlo Gesualdo - 5 Part Madrigal “Io Parto”

With shocking chromaticism and unusual harmonies, Gesualdo’s madrigal depicts a languishing speaker at the end of their rope in beautiful sadness. Though written in the Late Renaissance, this work was ahead of its time, with similar usage of harmony not being used until hundreds of years after his death.
